enchantedsleeperI've been having a great time taking part in the Small Fandoms Drabblethon since I stumbled on it a week ago. It's always really fun to get back into drabble-creating, and it's fun thinking up small fandoms to write for.
I got a bunch of (slightly chaotic) prompts to work with from my friends, but I've also come up with a few ideas apart from those, some of which may or may not pan out; we'll see! But here's a round-up of my drabbles from the first week of taking part. I'm posting them all to the comm on Dreamwidth, but they're also archived on SquidgeWorld Archive in the challenge collection. I'm thinking of putting them up on AO3 right at the end and then backdating them (maybe making a series? Not sure yet).
I was really pleased to make my first fic for the challenge one for Starship Iris, which is one of my favourite fandoms, but I hadn't written for it in a couple of years. Plus, it's an idea that I'd been nursing for a while - writing something pre-canon centred around Arkady and growing things. It was inspired by the prompt 'Moist', which is a little curséd, but I made it work xD
For the prompt "Don't be ridiculous". Just a small in-between-scenes fic from the perspective of the Halverton High fencing team, who are introduced in volume 5 and have very fun chaotic energy - the prompt was a good excuse to write something focused on them.
Continuing on a theme, I got this other great prompt, "Pink nightmare", from one of my friends and it was the perfect fit for something chaotic involving the Halverton team. Plus I'd wanted to write about the Halverton equivalent of "supply room incidents", because there's DEFINITELY a story there.
I might be most proud of this fic so far, because I'd been thinking about Twelve Percent Dread (a brilliant graphic novel by Emily McGovern, who you might know better as the creator of 'My Life as a Background Slytherin') and then I was hit with the idea to write something for the Small Fandoms drabblethon. This gave me a great excuse to spend two days re-reading the comic <3
It took me a few drafts to get this fic right, as I wanted to write something post-canon focused on Nas and Alicia and Alicia being a bit baffled by becoming human, and then I thought to introduce something new - the idea that Alicia can now fall asleep. Writing it as a drabble meant I didn't really have to explain how that works, which is great because I have no idea, but the way that Alicia works isn't really explained in canon either xD
Anyway - it's the first fic, as far as I can tell, that's been created for this fandom! Small fandoms indeed. I'm writing another one that's not a drabble, but I definitely want to do some more drabbles, too.
Let's hope I can keep up this momentum so that I'll have enough fics for a second round-up in a week's time :D
