Last week I went to the cinema to watch James Gunn's Superman reboot. I went with two friends, one of whom is a fellow Superman enjoyer and the other of whom doesn't even really do superheroes - but all of us had a great time.

As someone who was very much a fan of the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) but has since dropped off following it almost completely, I would definitely say I had superhero adaptation fatigue. But I'm glad I went to see it - and it's also given me a cause to reflect on my past Superman fandom and the fact that I am, in fact, a Superman girlie at heart.

When I first saw the posters and marketing for Superman, my knee-jerk reaction was, 'Do we really need another Superman film?' Okay, James Gunn is a good director, but that alone wasn't enough to convince me that it would be worthwhile. Apparently this one was going to have a super-dog in it, which is different, but not something that really appealed to me. It wasn't until my friends took an interest (and shared some very fun interviews with the cast members) that I considered seeing it at all, much less in the cinema.

While there obviously are commercial motivations at play, I can now say that it was also clearly made with a lot of care and heart, a lot of love and respect for the source material, and that's so evident when watching the film.

I finally sat down this evening to do some archiving for [community profile] marchmetamatterschallenge (I keep wanting to call it "March Meta Madness", which I blame on the similarly-named US basketball competition, but it is also a fun name xD).

I'd already done quite a bit of meta (and musings and theories that I'm generously grouping under that heading) archiving on my personal site, enchantedsleeper's space, on the Meta & Miscellaneous page. However, after taking stock at the beginning of the month, I realised that I'd written some pretty good meta for FENCE since the last time I did any archiving (including a nice piece for the Snowflake Challenge here on DW!) Also, I've wanted to spend some time going through Mastodon to find meta-ish thoughts I've written about things like vidding and drabbles and collect those together somewhere less ephemeral - probably on this blog.

So, these are my projects for the month! So far, I've ticked off the first one: three new pieces of FENCE meta are now hosted on my Meta & Misc page. I'll do an extra comb through my FENCE tags to make sure I haven't missed anything, but I think I got the main ones.
