I'm organising a small web event! \o/

My general existential "nope" about the passage of time continues, as it's somehow managing to be almost September already 😱 I'm currently on a trip that I've been hugely looking forward to that started on 21st August, so, I'm also delighted that it's finally here! But, you know, I feel conflicted, because the last portion of the year is rushing at me super fast 😅

Still, I have something coming up in September that I'm very excited about. I was chatting to kalloway, who runs the lovely smallweb community, about our mutual desire for a small web-themed event that would give us some motivation to work on our respective archives, and kalloway encouraged me to start something myself if I felt inclined and offered to host it. So, I noodled on some ideas for what a small web event/challenge could look like, and devised Small Web September!

Small Web September is very much in the spirit of March Meta Matters, because I really enjoyed that event and I like the format of having regular prompts and check-in points where people can share their progress, thoughts and challenges. So, over on smallweb, there'll be five check-in points for people to join in, chat about their small web projects, give advice and troubleshoot, and hopefully achieve some cool things! Here's what the schedule will look like:

1st September: Kick-off and goal-setting! What's your project, and what would you like to do with it during the month? (It can be anything - doesn't have to be a whole site; it could be a webring or directory, a page, a resource list... anything small web-related!)
8th September: Rec some resources! Found a tutorial that was really helpful? Or a site whose style you really like? This will be an opportunity to share cool and useful things!
15th September: Halfway point! How's it going? Share your progress!
22nd September: Troubleshooting time! This will be a dedicated point for people to share challenges they've run into and offer help. Of course, you're welcome to do that at other points during the event, too ;D
30th September: The wrap-up! A chance for everyone to share what they managed to do, and what they're planning next.

Like I said, it's open to small web projects of every kind - shrines, webrings, archives, directories, whatever you're making. If you don't have a project, but have always wanted to start one, this is the event for you! And you can jump in at any time - come on over to smallweb and join the fun! It will be low-key but friendly, supportive and hopefully enjoyable :D

Please feel free to share it around to any folks you think would be interested in joining! I've made an intro post on the comm that you can link to if you so desire, or just point people in the direction of smallweb. ^^

It's a pity I'm not still on my path to writing 100 fics, I got up to 100 a few weeks ago. That would have been a good Small Web September wouldn't it.

If you wanted to do Small Web September, you could always find a new project to start, but there's also nothing wrong with just hanging out in the comments and chatting to others who are taking part! It's totally up to you ^^

Thanks, I made a post about my 100 fics, I thought you'd replied to that actually 😅

Well I'm in my The Professionals phase at the moment, so Bodie and Doyle won't stop talking in my head and I'm writing about them these days. They are funny, which suits me down to the ground.

I'm sure some project will pop up in my head, my brain is always surprising me with its next idea, or as you say I can just hang around in the comments 😊
