That sounds lovely and like such a fun project :D Your note about bright colours reminded me how little personalisation is possible these days... maybe MySpace was the last "social media" type platform that really let you personalise? From Facebook, Twitter and onward you could modify a banner at best. Oh, I suppose Tumblr is also heavy on customisation, except the vast majority of people interact via the dashboard and never see it, haha.
