So sorry for the long delay in replying! August really got away from me, but I hadn't forgotten about our conversation ^^ You inspired me to start working on a fanmix for the main character from FENCE, Nicholas Cox - I was looking for song lyrics to title a fic from his POV, and then I thought, some of these really would go well in a hypothetical character fanmix... xD I've got six songs so far, but I'm going to noodle on it some more when I get the chance and try to add others! Thanks for the encouragement ;D
Ooooh, thanks for the soundtrack recs - I played Journey years ago and it was such a gorgeous game, but I never thought to seek out the soundtrack! What a brilliant thought. I would also like to play Hades, and haven't yet, nor have I heard the soundtrack yet, so I'll have to look it up!
My own recs tend toward the older side, heheh, because I only play games very occasionally nowadays and so my own memorable soundtracks are all from a previous era. I really like the soundtrack from the 1999 PC game Civilization II: Test of Time - it's very vibey, and mostly quite downbeat/peaceful, although some of the tracks are a little bit more lively. (And then there's Ode to Joy randomly in the mix, because that plays when you get an in-game achievement xD)
I also love the soundtrack from the .hack PlayStation 2 games, and in particular I recommend the Mac Anu music, which is the theme for the homeworld in .hack//Infection. It's so lovely and peaceful. I used to love coming back to Mac Anu to recharge between adventures! Also, though it's not a relaxing listen by any means, I do think the boss battle music for Skeith: The Terror of Death is excellent. I had so much difficulty beating this boss and the theme would give me HUGE ANXIETY 😂 But it's so good!
Speaking of homeworlds, I also adored the homeworld music in Spyro 2 and used to go back there just to vibe and run around :D Here's a link to a playlist with the homeworld themes - the comments below Summer Forest Theme are particularly lovely and full of people reminiscing about the memories it brings back. <3
And finally, I've never played Animal Crossing: New Leaf, but someone on Pillowfort linked to one of the hourly themes and I really like how the game has different themes for each hour, so you can play them to get the right mood for that time of day. ^^ My favourite so far is 9 A.M., which is a really nice morning song.
