Yes it's basically a sci fi comedy with 4 main characters. It succeeds because the group of 4 play off each other so well. It ran from 1988 to 2017, they still make one off special episodes but of course the cast are pretty old now so they don't make whole seasons.
They are: 1. Dave Lister, the last human, who is lazy and disgusting but quite kind. 2. Arnold Rimmer, a hologram, who is bossy, annoying, pretentious but reliable. 3. The Cat, a cat which has evolved into a humanoid over the 3 million years Lister was in stasis. He is vain, a show off, loves clothes, has no fear of anything. 4. Kryten, their android butler, who is very prim and proper, and tries to keep them in order.
If any of them were missing, it wouldn't work. Oh also there is Holly, the ship's mainframe computer, who thinks they're all stupid.
