That's a good point - I didn't really account for how heavily whether or not you create fanworks (or what type of fanworks you create) affects your experience of fannish sites. My experience has been very heavily fic/text-driven. Maybe this is also a factor in my being less attached to Tumblr, as I think visual fanworks are a bit more popular on there. Anyway, that sounds endlessly frustrating :/
