March Meta Matters and meta archiving

I finally sat down this evening to do some archiving for [community profile] marchmetamatterschallenge (I keep wanting to call it "March Meta Madness", which I blame on the similarly-named US basketball competition, but it is also a fun name xD).

I'd already done quite a bit of meta (and musings and theories that I'm generously grouping under that heading) archiving on my personal site, enchantedsleeper's space, on the Meta & Miscellaneous page. However, after taking stock at the beginning of the month, I realised that I'd written some pretty good meta for FENCE since the last time I did any archiving (including a nice piece for the Snowflake Challenge here on DW!) Also, I've wanted to spend some time going through Mastodon to find meta-ish thoughts I've written about things like vidding and drabbles and collect those together somewhere less ephemeral - probably on this blog.

So, these are my projects for the month! So far, I've ticked off the first one: three new pieces of FENCE meta are now hosted on my Meta & Misc page. I'll do an extra comb through my FENCE tags to make sure I haven't missed anything, but I think I got the main ones.

While I was at it, I also tidied up the M&M page with some centered headings and an improvised section divider, but I think I could do more to make it a nice reading experience. As the "Meta" part of the page is getting bigger, I'm wondering if I shouldn't split that off into its own page, and I think that some of the longer essays deserve their own pages, too. I like the expanding sections, but they're more suited to the little bits of text (which is what almost all of them were originally, but some longer works have now crept in there!)

I also added a scrolling section to the front page so that the updates log won't take up too much room as I add to it.

March Meta Matters are also putting up some writing prompts throughout the month, and the first one is now live, asking about how your main fandom(s) has/have changed over time. Originally I was going to add some brief thoughts here in lieu of a fully-fledged meta essay, but... I realised I do actually have more to say than I thought on some of the fandoms I've been in xD How about that. I think the subjects I could write on in most detail are changes in the Avengers/MCU fandom, specifically the corners involving Spider-Man, since reading Spider-Man crossovers got me into Avengers fandom back in 2014, and then I later fell into Spider-Man: Homecoming fandom in 2017, and that has changed too as more films have been released (though I haven't actually... seen the third one still.... ^^; )

While I first thought that commenting on changes in the MCU fandom would be a bit obvious ("it's got bigger!") I realised there might be genuine interest in what I remember from 2014 and also that I can talk about the way some of the tropes changed in Spider-Man fanfic. And speaking of Spider-Man, I was into Into the Spider-Verse in early 2019, and then Across the Spider-Verse in 2023, so that's another fandom evolution I could talk about - while some 'obvious' changes are reflected in the films (new characters!), I think that looking back on the fandom then and now is still an interesting subject.

Now when I'll make the time to write about these topics is another matter (a meta matter XD), but hopefully before the end of March! I have some time off work next week that could be handy...
