Starting Three Weeks for DW & a new song obsession

After my preparatory prompt-posting (very satisfying alliteration) for 3W4D, I didn't get around to making a post yesterday because I had some other stuff to finish in the evening. Still, even if I only post every other day, that'll still be a lot!

I have a couple of prompts I want to use during this event, one of which is my own writing-about-fanworks prompt, but I was also inspired by [personal profile] bluedreaming (who had a challenge involving putting your music library on shuffle and then using the song that comes up to write a flashfic) to shuffle my music library and write about whatever song comes up. I never get tired of writing about music, so I would find that really fun!

But today my song has been decided for me, because one of my favourite bands, Marianas Trench, has a new song out and IT'S SO GOOD:

It's possible that no-one here knows this band (I found them via Spotify's recommendations years ago and I've met a couple of fans completely in the wild, one of whom is a friend of mine, but I understand they're kind of a niche band to like), but I still really rec checking out this video, which just has gorgeous animation. When I saw "lyric video" I was expecting, well, lyrics on a black screen, but it's nothing like that! It could almost be a short film.

I'm already obsessed with this song and listening to it on repeat 😍 It hits several notes (pun intended, if you like xD) that feel like they were designed to appeal to me personally, like the orchestral elements, the heavier guitar (which is rarer in pop music nowadays and really feels like it calls back to the music I loved in the 00s), and at 3:05 the song starts giving me distinct Baba O'Riley vibes, with the... twiddly bits? (the fast-paced didlidlidlidlidl) and the chords over the top. I love Baba O'Riley, so that's an awesome association for me. (I don't know if it's intentional, it's not an absolute similarity, but it really struck me).

I also love the lyrics, and if we were still in the days of MSN Messenger I would 100% have "But what about all those voices in the night? Speaking all the things that keep me from a normal life" in my status xD Or a forum signature.

>> Being able to greet wolves in their language is awesome <<

Sooth. In case you're curious:

* Staring at another wolf is aggressive, a challenge.

* Not making eye contact at all is submissive and can invite aggression.

* Look, look away, and look back: this is how two wolves of relatively similar rank greet each other when they don't want to pick a fight.

>> I'm guessing you enjoyed the wolf imagery in the video :D It is a super song and animation, isn't it? <<

Yes, very much so.

>> There's nothing quite like them nowadays, is there? I mean, except for those forums that persist <<

Occasionally I still see signature lines on messages in mailing lists, but those have become rare -- which is a shame, because I'll read things in my inbox but I forget to go out and visit websites to look for newsletters.
