Meta Meta Matters and Archive April

And just like that, it’s the end of March! The year is really whipping past, and I’m pleased that I’m managing to take part in events like March Meta Matters and the Small Fandoms Drabblethon, but I always wish they could last longer xD Still, I’m really happy with my participation in March Meta Matters! Since my last post about the challenge, I have:
  • Archived my various thoughts on drabbles on SquidgeWorld (DW was having some downtime when I felt inspired to archive these, but I think SqWA is a good home for them! I like being able to use chapters for different dates – or date ranges)
  • Archived two new meta essays from a WordPress blog I’d forgotten about: one on the gender-ambiguous pairing of Squib/Pumkin from the web series Baman Piderman, and one on the second Fantastic Beasts film
  • Split off the longer meta essays on my site onto their own pages
  • Renamed the “meta and misc” page URL from /misc to /meta to reflect its much heavier meta emphasis; I’m thinking of moving the misc stuff to sit with my fic, since it’s more fic-related, or maybe just giving it a page of its own
  • I also re-ordered the Site Updates log on the Homepage to reverse chronological order so that the most recent updates are visible first.

It’s funny to think about how I created the “misc” page to archive little bits and pieces, which is all I originally thought my meta was, and then I started realising just how much of it I had (I mean, I’ve always loved meta, but I haven’t written much of it. Except for the part where a lot of my early ‘journalistic’ writing was basically fandom meta, and also, I’ve started writing more of it recently as I decide to put my Thoughts on my fandoms out there a bit more).

If you look at the updates log for my personal archive, you’d think meta was all I cared about xD I actually have almost as many dedicated meta essay pages as I do fic pages, and I do want to tip the balance back in favour of my fic. (I think archiving meta has been more fun for me because collecting it together and archiving it has allowed me to see how much I’d written. I know I’ve written a lot of fic, and I’ve always had a dedicated place, or places, to put it, so archiving it feels like more of a formatting chore).

Anyway, that’s why I’ve decided that this month is going to be Archive April! That may be a thing already; I haven’t checked, but anyway, my personal project for April is to archive more of my fanworks. I’m setting a goal of 10 additional works archived on enchantedsleeper.space, which can be fic, fanart, or fanvids. Ideally I’d also like to get the Fanart and Fanvid pages created even if I don’t add any works to them; and I’d like to sort out some of my site navigation with links back to the Homepage and so on.

Whenever people talk about personal fanworks archives, I tend to hold back from linking mine, because it still isn’t where I’d like it to be – even though it feels like I’ve spent a fair amount of time on it, I’d like it to have a better representation of many of my works and fandoms before I share it around more. Hopefully this will help with that!
